The flesh of vegetables gets soft in the heat of the day, making them especially vulnerable to inadvertent damage with even the gentlest picking. For vegetables growing on vines, cut them carefully rather than twisting them off to avoid damage to the plant.
While gardening you must make sure your knees are protected. It’s not a good idea to spend much time standing while you are bent over at the waist. If you kneel, you can easily work on your plants without placing stress on your back. Use a knee pad so that your knees don’t get sore.
Consider starting your plants in pots and then planting the seedlings in your garden. Doing this will increase the survival rate of all your outdoor plants. It also lets you have tighter control over the planting periods in your garden. Once the fully matured plants are removed, the seedlings can be planted.
If you are gardening for the first time ever, read and follow all directions and instructions that come with your chemicals and tools. If you don’t pay good attention, you could wind up with skin irritations or other issues. Always follow packaging directions to ensure your body’s safety.
As fall arrives, it is the time to prepare for planting fall edibles. Try using a pumpkin as a natural plant pot. You can plant fall vegetables such as lettuce in an empty pumpkin shell. Hollow out the pumpkin and spray with Wilt-Pruf to prevent rot. When you finish this, you can plant!
The best gardens start with seeds, as opposed to plants. When opening a garden, the most green method of beginning is from seed. Very few nurseries recycle the plastics that they use as containers for their plants, so the majority of these containers are thrown away and dumped in landfills. Therefore, it is better for the environment to plant a garden with seeds or to find a nursery that packages its plants using organic materials.
Purchase a wheelbarrow, and a kneeling stool to use in your garden. Gardening can be very tough on your knees, so a kneeling stool that is ergonomic and lightweight can make things much more comfortable and enjoyable. Gardening also usually requires that you transport heavy loads, such as dirt or mulch, and a wheelbarrow will make this much easier to do.
You will find that some of your houseplants would like to be re-potted, while others are quite happy where they are. To see whether a plant needs more growing room, first remove it from its pot by turning it upside down and gently sliding it loose. If you see roots crowding the dirt the plant grows in, you will need to put the plant in a larger pot. Your plant will not need to be re-potted if you can see very few, if any, roots poking out.
