You should always have a planting calendar when planning your garden. A planting calendar tells you which varieties you will plant in each season. It can prepare you in advance so you know what to purchase and when. You can write it down on paper, or use computer software to create your calendar.
So you don’t shock the plants, you should gradually get them use to a change in the temperature and conditions. Put the plants outside in the sun for one to two hours in the beginning. After a week, leave your plants outside for twice as long. By weeks end, you should have plants that are ready for a permanent home outside with no problem!
To keep your dog out of your garden, spray old perfume, aftershave, or other scented items in the grass around it. This covers up the smells that bring dogs to gardens in the first place, which means dogs are less likely to enter the garden.
Think about starting your peas indoors rather than planting them directly in the garden. If you were to plant them inside first, the seeds should germinate better. The seedlings will also be heartier, which means they can resist pests and diseases better. Once the seedlings are sturdy enough, they can be transplanted to their rightful place in the garden.
Consider a chicken tractor as a unique and eco-friendly way of fertilizing a garden. This is basically a chicken coop that moves, with sheltered area and open floor. This will allow chickens to eat the vegetation and the bugs, and deposit fertilizer at the same time. Simply pull over your chicken tractor to another area after a couple of weeks.
You should make sure to divide your irises. To increase the number that you have, you need to take all your overgrown clumps and split them up. After the foliage dies, pick up bulbous irises. They will literally split in your hand, flowering the next year after replanting. Rhizomes may need to be divided by using a knife. From the outside cut the new pieces and then get rid of the old center. Each piece should have at least one strong offshoot. Replant the new shoots right away.
If you have a smaller garden, put in a dwarf tree. Most gardens, especially the ones in city lots, tend to be small, but there’s always area for a small fruit tree. These trees begin to bear fruit about 3 to 5 years after planting them, and produce fruit that is full size. Always water adequately while the trees are being established, preferably getting them in the ground during the early months of the spring season.
Pre-soak seeds overnight in a dark place. Put some seeds (a small amount) in a container that isn’t too large for the plant you’ll be growing. Fill that container with water, almost to the top. This will give your seeds a good start by making sure they have plenty of water, which they need to sprout. This gives the seeds a better chance of flourishing.
