A lot of people believe that gardening is difficult to do, but this is untrue if you understand what to do. Anyone can become adept at gardening if armed with accurate information. This article will present you with all the advice you’ll need to become an expert gardener.
Clay soil can be a real pain to work with as it often sticks to the end of the shovel. Get better results in clay by rubbing car wax or floor wax onto the shovel, then buff off and dig. The wax prevents the clay from sticking to the shovel, and stops rust from forming.
Rubbing alcohol and vinegar can be used to strip salt deposits away from terracotta clay pots. You want to do this, because sometimes salt deposits can actually build up outside and on the clay pot over time. Mix up equal amounts of rubbing alcohol, water and white vinegar, then spray onto the pot. Scrub lightly and you will see the salt begin to disappear. Rinse off the extra solution, then leave it be for a while before you put anything else in the pot.
Many times, houseplants will have to be transferred to a new pot. Many variety of plants aren’t too keen on the idea, however. You can easily find out which plants need to be re-potted by turning each plant upside down, then tapping the pot until the plant frees itself from the pot and drops out. If you see roots crowding the dirt the plant grows in, you will need to put the plant in a larger pot. Yet take a careful look, if you see no roots or just a few, then you should keep your plant in that pot because it’s doing fine.
Think about adding some berry-producing evergreens to your landscaping. These plants will look good year-round, even during the winter, when your other plants have lost their bloom. Some examples include Holly, Snowberry trees, Winterberry and similar plants.
Think about utilizing a chicken tractor for fertilizing the soil you will use for your garden. This tool is little more than a mobile chicken coop with a grated floor. A chicken tractor protects your poultry and allows them to graze specific areas of your garden while also naturally fertilizing it. When the area has been fertilized, the tractor can be moved to another area.
Cut some roots to make new plants. Cut roots in the winter while they are dormant. You will need a sharp cutting implement to get the most prominent roots removed. Each root should be cut into lengths of about two inches. Fill seed trays with grit and moist peat, and gently lay the cut roots on the surface. Then add a coating of grit and peat on top. Keep the tray in a place with a constant temperature, not too warm, and you will see seedlings sprouting in a month or so. Plant these separately in little pots until they’re ready to plant outside.
