Great Gardening Advice Everyone Needs To Know

Keeping pests out of a vegetable garden can be difficult. Do not spray harsh chemicals on the vegetables you are going to eat. One way that you can help control garden pests is to remain vigilant. When you are vigilant, you can simply remove the pests from your plants manually as soon as you notice them. Early detection is the best solution to ridding your garden of pests.

A great garden starts from the seeds and not from the plants. Once the plant is healthy enough, replant it in your garden with the appropriate type of soil. The planters used to hold nursery plants are generally not made from eco-friendly materials, and thus get thrown into landfills. Starting from seeds, or buying from one of the few nurseries that use biodegradable planters, prevents this.

Trying to shovel through clay soil can be extremely difficult and tiresome. To ease the digging, apply some car wax or floor wax to the head of the shovel and buff. The wax will enable the clay soil to simply slide off the shovel, and will also prevent the shovel from rusting.

Choose perennials that slugs are not attracted to. Slugs or snails can kill a plant very quickly. These pests prefer plants with thin smooth leaves. Plant some helleborus or euphorbias along with your other perennials. You can discourage snails and slugs from eating your perennials by choosing plants with tougher or distasteful foliage. Some of examples of these are achillea, heuchera, campanula, helleborus, and euphorbia.

A small shed or an area in your garage make the perfect storage facility for garden tools. Don’t leave anything you care about laying around. You never know when someone might take something just because it’s there for the taking.

Aerate and dry your plants each day. Excess moisture creates an appealing environment for disease and parasites. One parasite you have to watch out for in particular is fungi. It is possible to control fungi by using fungicide sprays. However, these sprays should be used before issues become apparent.

If you have salt spots on your clay pots, try using a mixture of rubbing alcohol and vinegar. When you have a plant in a clay pot, unsightly salt deposits can build up on the outside over time. Spray the inside of the pot with a mixture containing water, vinegar and rubbing alcohol; all in equal parts. Use a plastic brush to scrub the salt away easily. Make sure you properly rinse your pot, and dry it before you plant anything in it.

As previously discussed, gardening can be rewarding, but it requires knowledge to actually make your garden grow properly. With the right advice and proper planning, you’ll soon have a thriving garden. Use the advice given to start on your road to a beautiful garden.
