Get Great Gardening Advice With These Handy Tips

One of the most sensible ways to improve your diet is through organic gardening. However, organic gardening does require a commitment. Oftentimes, new gardeners can be intimidated because they’re not quite sure where to start.

Do not improperly lay your new sod. Start by preparing your soil with care. Take out any weeds, then mix up the soil into a tilth that is fine. Gently compact the soil until it is flattened. You then will want to thoroughly wet the soil. Stagger your sod so that each joint offsets from joints in adjacent rows. Tamp down the sod so it has a flat and even surface, then using some extra soil, fill the gaps between. Once it is in place, the sod requires frequent watering for at least two weeks. This is usually the amount of time it takes for the sod to grow roots, making it ready to grow seamlessly into place.

There are home solutions available to combat the powdery mildew you may find on your plants. All it takes is a liquid soap, water, and baking soda mixture. Then, spray this mixture onto all of your infected plants once each week till the mildew is gone. Baking soda will bring no damage to your plants, and will treat the mildew in a gentle and efficient manner.

Grow some plants that cats like to eat – try catnip or wheat grass. It may also work to add citrus peelings or mothballs to the soil of the plants, because the odor is unpleasant to cats.

Don’t cut your grass too short! By leaving your grass a little taller, you are allowing it to become stronger, as the roots grow stronger and deeper. Grass that is shorter has a root system that is easier to dry out.

If many of the plants in your garden grow close to the ground, some gardening knee pads will prevent pain and knee injuries. Your knees will take a beating if you spend a great deal of time on the ground while tending your garden. Wear knee pads meant for gardeners so that you’ll be more comfortable when kneeling in your garden.

Having a good wheelbarrow and a kneeling stool makes garden chores a lot easier. Spending too much time on the ground working can be quite hard on your knees, and a gardening stool can help alleviate this, plus make things more comfortable for you. A wheelbarrow will help you move heavy items without hurting your back so ensure that you invest in one promptly.

When planting anything, think about planting for color so that you have something to enjoy in the fall. That need not be the case though! Autumn is the most colorful season of all, foliage-wise. Maple trees produce yellow and red leaves, just like Beech and Dogwood trees. When choosing shrubs, think about cotoneaster, hydrangea or barberry.
