There is plenty to learn about gardening, but the knowledge will pay off in the long run. Since you have discovered this tip-filled article, hopefully, you will gain enough information to refine your gardening methods, thereby, becoming a better gardener.

Gardening can be very relaxing. There are numerous ways to seek personal comfort and peace. Gardening is a relatively easy way to pursue this goal. The cost is low and the reward is often high. The best part of it is not the plants themselves, but the stillness achieved by tending to them.

A set of knee pads are a life saver if you’re an avid gardener and a lot of your plants sit close to the ground. Gardening is supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable; you don’t want to finish every gardening session with aching, throbbing knees. Having a good pair of knee pads will cushion your knees in comfort.

Try using root cuttings to grow new plants. Cut roots in the winter when they’re dormant. Choose the thickest roots that have a good length and, using a sharp knife, remove them from the plant. Divide the roots into vertical segments of about two inches. Place the cuttings on top of a tray that has been covered with peat and some type of grit. Lightly cover the root cuttings with a layer of the peat and grit mixture. Allow them to sit in a cool spot for 30 days, and new seedlings will emerge. Plant the seedlings separately in small containers until they are large enough to be planted outdoors.

Use perennials resistant to slugs and snails. Your plants can be destroyed by slugs and snails overnight. These pests are especially attracted to tender sprouts and to delicate, soft leaves. You can discourage snails and slugs from eating your perennials by choosing plants with tougher or distasteful foliage. Several good choices include heuchera, campanula, achillea, and euphorbia.

Give them a nutritious drink by using the water that you boiled your veggies in. If you have rhododendrons or gardenias, use coffee and tea grounds to acidify the soil. Chamomile tea applied to plants can be an effective remedy for fungus problems.

Plot your vegetable garden out on paper! Create a list of the food you wish to grow, then create a diagram of the area you have to plant, and what will go where. Make sure you are giving consideration to required sunlight, plant maturity, height and width, and moisture control.

Plant heather to attract beneficial insects. Heather attracts bees, and when they come out in the spring, this provides an early nectar source. Plant a heather bed, it will house many bugs that are good for a garden such as spiders and ground beetles. If you choose to employ the use of heather, always make sure to throw on a pair of gloves during the pruning process.

Use rainwater to keep your plants well hydrated, and feel confident that you are staying friendly to the environment. You can collect the rainwater in a barrel or other container. This will lessen your water bill, and help you use more natural resources. Keep this in mind as a way to add a little more to your budget for other things and to make sure your garden is as natural as possible.

That isn’t too difficult, is it? Just like anything else in life there is much to learn when it comes to gardening. Sometimes, if you figure out where to begin, it’s easy to “jump right in”. Hopefully, you received that from the above tips.
