Get Tips Here For A Thriving Garden!

There is no time like the present for taking up a new hobby, and gardening can be very rewarding. You may have questions, but don’t worry, this article can help. The following article includes a series of tips that will place you in a much better position for starting your project.

If you want your garden to blossom with flowers throughout the spring and summer, plant some bulbs in it. Bulbs are usually very hearty and very easy to grow, and bulbs will grow year after year. You can select bulbs that bloom at many different times, so with a little work, you could have flowers popping up all the way from the start of spring to the end of summer.

Utilize a calender to keep your garden on a schedule. A planting calendar tells you which varieties you will plant in each season. Used properly, it will also be your go to tool for proactively preparing ahead of time, including timing what types of seeds to buy and when in the year is best to purchase them. You can make a planting calendar using a computer program, or with paper.

Pouring the excess water from your dinner of steamed veggies on them can help. It is also possible to utilize coffee ground or tea to make the soil more acidic for gardenias, rhododendrons and other plants that prefer acidic soil. Spray your plants with a 9:1 mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide to eliminate fungus without harming your plants.

Do not be in a rush when you plant your seeds. Begin by adding moisture to the soil. Next, you will want to evenly distribute your seeds to ensure sufficient growing space. Multiply the size of each seed by three and bury the seed that deep. Some seeds require light for growing and must not be buried.

Broad-spectrum pesticide is not a good garden choice. Besides killing the insects you don’t want, this type of pesticide will also kill beneficial insects. Useful insects are more sensitive to these pesticides than the pests, so by killing them, you could be growing your pest population. This will cause a cycle to start where you will need to keep increasing the amount of pesticide you are using.

Some houseplants may need humidity. Place your plant in a large pot with a lot of compost or stones to enhance humid conditions. You can also create a more humid environment by placing a variety of plants into the same pot. Mist your plants with some water a few times a day to create humidity.

Research the amount of water, food and sunlight your plants require for optimal health and growth. This is important, because your plants can develop root rot and die if they receive too much water, and if they receive too little water, they can dry out. Keep a close eye on how much moisture is in the soil, and always maintain an adequate level.

Use your tool handles as rulers in the garden. Tools with long handles, such as shovels, hoes and rakes can be made into measuring sticks. On the floor, simply lay out the handles, then take a tape measure and run it next to them. A permanent marker can be used to label distances. Now, the next time you do work in the garden, you’ll actually have a ruler at your fingertips.

As you can see, anybody can garden with the right knowledge. You though you had mad skills before. Now you have insane skills! Hopefully, the ideas and tips discussed here have offered some useful pointers to help you on your way to great gardening adventures and a professional looking garden.
